Frequently Asked Questions

Does Cosmetic Tattooing hurt?

While everyone's pain thresholds are different, two different types of topical anesthetic will be applied throughout your treatment to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. The majority of people are surprised with how comfortable the treatment process is.

What is involved in the healing process?

An aftercare cream will be provided following your treatment to apply 3-4 times a day for the first 10 days post procedure and every night after that for 4 weeks.

You will need to avoid excessive sweating, make up on your brows, excessive water and direct, harsh sunlight.

How is the shape determined?

Several factors come into play with determining the shape of your brows. We are a firm believer in creating brows for each individual face - it is not a one size fits all situation.
We will create your brows using your natural brows as much as we can (if there are any). We will also create them using the 'quintessential perfect brow shape guide' and, most importantly, what you want.
A thorough consultation allows us to determine what you are wanting with your brows. They will always be mapped, measured and the outline drawn on prior to your treatment and the treatment will not proceed until we are both happy with the shape.

Will my brows be dark?

Not if you don't want them to be, they will be a little bolder for the first few days, but brows will always soften and fade as they heal. As it is a two treatment procedure, we can always go darker at the retouch and we prefer to err on the side of caution for the initial treatment.

Why are two treatments necessary?

We are introducing something new into the skin and because of this, the skin may reject some of the pigment.
The first treatment is like laying the foundation for the pigment and patience is always needed while we watch how each individual's skin responds.
The second treatment is the perfection treatment where we know what the skin needs and we can tweak accordingly. It is a lot easier to add more colour and depth to the brow, then reduce it so sometimes less is more for the first treatment, especially if you are a bit nervous.

How long does cosmetic tattooing last?

While it does vary person to person, cosmetic tattooing generally lasts between 12-24 months, with the average being 18 months before a freshen up is needed. This depends a lot on your skin type, lifestyle, and certain medications/cosmetic treatments.
Cosmetic tattooing is not like a normal tattoo in that it doesn't go as deep into the skin as a traditional tattoo. Because of this, top ups will be needed from time to time to keep the pigment looking its best. If you decide to let it completely fade, it will take about 4-5 years to completely disappear.
Also keep in mind that cosmetic tattoo is considered low maintenance, not no maintenance meaning that some clients still like to get the hairs tinted and shape tidied every now and then to keep it looking its best. This is especially the case if you have blonde/light hair.

Is cosmetic tattooing safe for everyone?

While most people are completely suited to cosmetic tattooing there are some health conditions which may prevent it such as:

Pregnancy/early nursing
Blood thinners (can be done if under a doctors care)
Diabetes (doctors note may be required)
Certain skin conditions in the brow area
Certain oral skin medications
Hemophilia/heavy bleeder

(if unsure a complimentary consultation is always recommended)
